Description
The OMR action wrench is manufactured by professional gun, stock, barrel, rifle, parts manufacture, Oregon Mountain Rifles Co, out of Billings Montana. We here at OMR have installed and removed 1000s of barrels over the past 10 years using our action wrench design. We are now making it available to the public for the first time in almost 10 years.
The OMR action wrench was designed to provide a lifetime of use for the professional gun smith who installs a dozen of barrels a day, to the guy who just wants quality tools that work when he needs them.
OMR starts with 416 stainless bar stock which is then inserted into our state of the art 4th axis mill to be precisely machined to .002” of an inch.
The OMR action wrench is like no other wrench on the market. OMR uses duel lug design which provides 2X the surface area support in the raceway which eliminates any chance of side torque while maximizing contact in the raceways & keeping the action wrench straight in the action at all times even under high torque, high stress situations.
Anyone who has ever tried to or had to remove a seized or stuck barrel knows that 75 ft/lbs is no where near enough strength to break a barrel loose. In fact most manufacturers including us here at OMR recommend 75-90 ft/lbs of torque on new installs. Why use a wrench that doesn’t meet manufacturer recommended specifications?
Instructions for use:
OMR advocates for safe gun practices
Make sure gun is unloaded
Remove bolt
OMR recommends removing your bolt stop release as well (simply pull pin, remove stop, make sure you get the spring as well)
Insert rear entry OMR action wrench fully before applying any force
Use 3/4” torque wrench or socket
Remember rightly tighty, lefty loosey. FYI you’re going left!
- OMR is not responsible for broken or damaged action wrenches due to excessive force. OMR Action Wrenches are designed with a sheer breaking point between 175 and 225 ft/lbs, depending on action wrench model. The use of a breaker bar or extension will brake the OMR Action Wrench and can cause severe damage to your action.
- Tikka and Howa 1500/Vanguard barrels are notoriously hard to remove. OMR suggests using a torque wrench set to 125 ft/lbs when using the OMR Action Wrench. In our experience, if it does not break loose at these settings, you most likely will have to make a relief cut in the barrel to be able to remove it. WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND USING A QUALIFIED GUN SMITH FOR THIS PROCESS.
